Valley Rangers 2 - 0 Lismore A.F.C.
Our reporter took on this game on a cold saturday afternoon in conna. Valley, the league leaders went into the game as favourites but Lismore gave Valley a tough game in the home fixture before Christmas when Valley won 3-2 in a very close contest. Valley started the brighter and Harry Draper, Jack Murphy and Jake O'Brien had chances in the first 20 minutes. Lismore settled into the game and had a shot hit the crossbar after 30 minutes. It was a tight battle in midfield with David McDonnell and Tom Hartnett from Valley combining well. The game was evenly ties at 0-0 at half time. The second half was another tight affair, with Valley coming close from a number of corners. The breakkthrough for Valley came with 20 minutes played in the second half when some fine work by James Hayes on the right hand side put in Dan who slotted home. Kyle Wallace played very well in the Valley defence with some great support from Stephen Roche, Ethan Scotthin and Cillian Fitzpatrick. Lismore then dominated the next 10 minutes and were very unlucky not to score when Valley keeper Shane martin somehow kept out a number of close shots from Lismore. It as from a a shot by lismore off the Valley crossbar that the game was decided. Valley broke quickly and a lovely ball over the top from David McD was nicely finished by Dan for his second. Valley then had a number of other chances to add to their two goal tally but the Lismore keeper was in good form. Final Score: Valley 2-0 Lismore.

Result: Lismore 2 - 3 Valley

Valley travelled to Castle Farm grounds last saturday as undefeated league leaders to play an improving Lismore side. Valley had a changed side as they were missing their two regular centre halves and they took time to settle into the game. Lismore came storming out of the blocks and dominated the first 20 minutes and deseved their 1-0 lead and could have scored a few more. However, Valley slowly started to dominate and got their just rewards when a Tom H cross from the right hand side into the box was flicked on by Harry Draper and met by Jake O'Brien to score Valley's opener. Valley kept the pressure on and a great run down the right by David and a superb cross was dispatched into the Lismore goal by Cillian. Valley led 2-1 at half time. The second half was end to end stuff and chances were falling at both ends. Lismore got a well deserved equaliser within 15 minutes of the restart. However 10 minutes later Harry Draper was taken down in the penalty area and David duly converted the spot kick for Valley to take a 3-2 lead. In the last 15 mins there were chances at both ends but Valley held out to take maximim points.

Lismore 1

Mogeely were back in action last Sunday when they welcomed Lismore to Railway Park for their 2nd competitive league game of the season. Following on from their victory in the SFAI cup 1st round the previous week Mogeely were going into this game knowing Lismore would present a tough challenge and would have to maintain their good performance to get anything from the game.

Mogeely started with a similar defensive outfit as the previous week, Matt in goals and Evan, Chris & Oran holding the defensive line. Jake, Ciaran and Oliver started in the middle of the park and the 2 Andrew's headed up the attack.

Mogeely had tip and started the game brightly, retaining much of the possession and moving the ball around nicely. With 6mins on the clock Oliver, who was working well in midfield had the ball in the Lismore net, 1 up. Mogeely continued to press but Lismore were beginning to find a couple of gaps in Mogeely's defense and creating some chances of their own, however the lads quickly pulled up their socks and continued to keep Lismore at bay.

Midway into the half Ciaran, who was working hard added a second for Mogeely. Oliver added a further goal a few minutes later and Mogeely were doing well. With their strength in numbers Mogeely were able to introduce fresh legs of Cian B., Alex, Fionn & Aaron into the game who all slotted seamlessly into their positions.

Lismore however never gave up and pulled one back with a few minutes before halftime. The second half was a fairly even contest with both sides defending stoutly and at the same time not afraid to take on the defenses. Mogeely brought on further fresh legs in Darius, Cian A. & newcomer Alan who all freshened up Mogeely's options in midfield and attack.

Overall a very good result for the home side who were made to work hard by a very good Lismore side. Well done to all involved.
